Obituary

Alice Ortiz Scaramuzzo, 66, of Arlington, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, January 27, 2021.

Born September 21, 1954, she was the fifth child of Mario and Martha Ortiz. Alice, or “Sister” as she was known to her siblings, is fondly remembered for her joyous spirit and profound love for her family.

Proceeded in death by her father, Mario Ortiz; her sister, Hope Ortiz; and dear friend, Martha McCombs. She is survived by her husband of 14 years, Ray Scaramuzzo; her mother, Martha Ortiz; her son, Christopher Velasquez (Kevin); her mother-in-law, Jean Scaramuzzo; her brothers, Carlos Ortiz (Jhonnie) and Mario Ortiz (Mary); her sisters, Carmen Ortiz, Vera Corbin (Jacob), Martha Murray and Lucy Ortiz; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Dear friends, Betty Etheridge and Marsha McCombs are among some of her many friends.

Growing up, she was an avid softball player, and continued her passion for sports throughout her lifetime further instilling in her values of teamwork, integrity and passion. She continued these values, and made lifelong friendships, at Stripe-A-Zone, Inc. where she worked for over 20 years.

“Aunt Buck” was more than an aunt to her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was known for her deep care for others, strong family ties and frequent hosting of family gatherings at her house.
Most recently, she was overjoyed to hold the beloved title of “Mingo” to her grandson, Andy.

She embraced being a daughter, sister, aunt and Mingo with her whole heart, as she did with every other aspect of her life, and treasured her close relationship with her sisters, family and friends. Alice was a faithful Christian; she loved flamingos and enjoyed her weekend getaways with her family.

A Rosary will be held Friday, February 5th at 7:30 P.M., and the Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, February 6th at 10:00 A.M., both being held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Parish in Arlington.

In lieu of flowers, please bring a non-perishable food item to the rosary to be donated to the local food bank.
