Barbara Kay Brown took her first breath in heaven on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at her home in Mansfield, Texas.

Barbara was born on Wednesday, September 14, 1938, as Barbara Kay Barton in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, to Dale and Wilma Barton. Her father was a farmer and her mother a one-room school teacher until 1950 when her parents surrendered to be missionaries. When they completed training, the family went by boat to Brazil, South America. Education was important to her mother who had been a school teacher so she and her sister attended the American School in Brazil until just before her Senior year. Barb came back to Springfield, Missouri.
She was allowed to live in the college dormitory and attended her Senior year at Central High School while starting first year of college at Baptist Bible College where she met the love of her life, Melvin Brown. Together they began a 61-year journey of life together. God gave them two daughters and many, many people to minister to. She followed Jesus and Mel Brown willingly! She was a true follower of Jesus and lived her life devoted as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, pastor’s wife -- and she would also tell you she was a very detailed bookkeeper! All who knew Barb loved her fun-loving personality. She was amazing at all those things. She always brought people together by creating fun things to do and was always quick to point everyone to what she valued most, an eternal relationship with the Lord.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 61 years, Mel Brown, Mansfield, TX, two daughters and sons-in-law Ronda and David Baker, North Richland Hills, TX, Renee and Brian Grey, Mansfield, TX, six grandchildren: Heather and Kyle Emory (Bedford, TX), Jason and Amanda Grey (Brandon, FL), Tyler Baker (Grapevine, TX), Brandon and Mary Grey (Georgetown, TX), Kyle Grey (Mansfield, TX), Derek Grey (Mansfield, TX), and one great-grandson Griffin Emory (Bedford, TX): two sisters Janet and Gary Tomberlin of Curitiba, Brazil, Judy Eckles of Brownwood, TX and many nieces and nephews.
Missionary work was so important to Barb. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent in her memory to Harmony Baptist Church, 1814 W. Arkansas Lane, Arlington, TX 76013 designated for missions or online at
