Beverly Hudson Eberts of Houston, Texas, died Tuesday, May 12, 2020.

There will be a Memorial service in Houston in a few months, after pandemic restrictions are lifted. Private graveside service will be May 18, 2020 at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, TX. Memorial contributions may be made to The Jim and Beverly Eberts Endowed Scholarship; Baylor University; University Advancement; One Bear Place #97026; Waco, TX 76798-7026.

She was born on December 27, 1929 in Palestine, Texas, to Walter Edgar Hudson and Bernice Verylie Worcester Hudson. She was raised in Little Rock Arkansas, and graduated from Central High School. She married James Franklin Eberts in 1950 and they graduated together from Baylor University in 1951. Beverly and Jim then moved to Houston, and were happily married for almost 50 years. After raising their daughter, Donna, Beverly taught third grade at A.B. Freeman Elementary in Pasadena ISD for 20 years. She earned a Master’s Degree in Reading Development from the University of Houston Clear Lake City in 1982.

During her daughter’s school years, Beverly led Girl Scout Troop 311 from second grade until the girls graduated from high school. This was one of her proudest achievements, and she kept up with many of the forty scouts until her death.

Jim and Beverly supported Baylor University their whole lives. They created an endowed scholarship at Baylor to support students in the Speech Pathology department, and later added to it to support the Business School. Beverly loved attending events in Waco where she was able to meet students who received her scholarship grants, especially during the years when she had grandchildren at Baylor.
Beverly attended South Main Baptist Church, where she was known for 20 years as the Flower Lady. Her responsibilities included placing beautiful arrangements in the sanctuary and the foyer, as well as coordinating floral arrangements for all special events such as Hanging of the Green.
In 2018 she moved to Arlington, Texas to be closer to her family. The family wishes to thank all the sweet caregivers at Bethesda Gardens Assisted Living Facility in Arlington for their many kindnesses.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, and her brother Donald.

She is survived by her only daughter Donna McCown, husband Steve, grandchildren Adam (Bryanne) McCown, and Claire (Chris) Schinnerer, great-grandchildren Allison and Brooke McCown, and Will and Luke Schinnerer, several dear cousins, and many friends.
