Obituary

Byron Clayton Caruthers, 84, went to be with the Lord on March 10, 2021. A private family graveside service was held on March 22, 2021 at Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington.

Byron was born on March 4, 1937 in Paris, Texas to Jack and Beulah Caruthers. He was raised in Tyler, Texas and graduated from John Tyler High School in 1956. He continued his education at Texas A&M where he played football for “Bear” Bryant. During his time at Texas A&M, he met the love of his life and transferred to SMU to be with her. Byron graduated from SMU with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Advertising. He was an innovator in the marketing industry and worked for over 30 years at Six Flags Over Texas. At the time of his retirement, he was Vice President of Marketing. He started Fright Fest, Holiday in The Park, discount coupons on soda cans, and many other innovative ideas. Byron was an avid golfer and loved to fish. Family was everything to Byron. Included in every prayer was a request for blessings for them; he loved all of them dearly.

Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 61 and a half years, Helen Caruthers; son, Clay Caruthers and wife Tammie; daughter, Linda Rodden and husband Cody; grandchildren, Bryce Caruthers and wife Keslynn, Heather Nelson and husband Robert, Ethan Rodden and wife Dea; 4 great grandchildren and one on the way; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; many lifelong and childhood friends.

Byron is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Cecelia Whitmore and husband Joe; sister-in-law, Georgia Caruthers; and nephew, David Whitmore.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasantview Baptist Church, 4400 Pleasantview Dr., Arlington, Texas 76017 or The American Heart Association.

Byron hired me, along with support from Jim Pemberton, Dan Howells, Robert Freeman, Bob Greene, Margie Robinson and Bobby Grubbs. I had just returned from VietNam, and it was a rather bumpy, no, not bumpy.....maybe critical... time in my life, to put it lightly. Byron....and all.....thank you......thank you....for helping me when others would not. Joe LeVesque
