I remember Chuck as being a quiet, reserved but at times mischievous. He could go from a frowning look to a sly smile nearly instantly. Chuck was interested in many things and I always thought he possessed a very inquisitive mind. It did not surprise me when he spent a quite successful career in computer technology. I recall some very pleasant times with Chuck when he was high school age and I was a youth sponsor at church. Chuck was an accomplished musician and an excellent guitar player. I especially enjoyed watching him perform in several school productions. When Chuck's illness began taking a toll on him physically, it did not surprise me at all to hear reports of how he truly gave all he had to combat the effects cancer was having on his body. As he did with every challenge he faced in life, he ran a good race and gave it his all. Knowing Chuck was secure in his faith, I can say with every confidence that he has now stepped over to his eternal reward. May he rest in peace and may a loving God bring peace and comfort to all his family.

My first remembrance of Chuck Kelley was when he was very young singing and playing his guitar in front of the Methodist Church in Lovington, NM. I can remember taking him home from Vacation Bible School to the Skyline Motel where his parents were the owners.
I had the privilege of being his MYF youth sponsor. One particular weekend retreat on the Indian Reservation in Ruidoso we took 4 carloads of youth, sleeping in tents and worshiping the Lord. At night we would sing by the campfire and Chuck would lead us singing and playing his guitar with the fire crackling and each youth searching for more of God. Another time, we went to the Shipp's Ranch for Mud Fights over a dirt stock tank. Chuck was paired with a blind boy visiting our group from the NM School for the blind. Kent Phillips was so special to all our youth. Chuck and Kent were tied together with cloth, one foot and one hand, and taken to the middle of the stock tank. I was feeling so sorry for Kent because Chuck was this big football player. Little did we know Kent was on the wrestling team at his school. In no time he had Chuck, and later others, down in the mud wallowing. I can just see Chuck as Elvis Presley in the choral production UP, UP and AWAY, in his turquoise, sequin suit singing and moving to Love Me Tender. He got a standing ovation on that. Anytime Chuck told you he would do something, you could count on it being done. Our families were co-owners to a real estate, landscaping, plumbing, and electrical company. So the boys always had a summer job. I got to see Chuck in the office after a hard days work often. Now, Chuck, I look forward to seeing and hearing you play Christian music again. I Can Only Imagine you singing and playing for the heavenly choir. RIP and know you are loved by me.
