Obituary

Wanda Drusilla Boyd Young was a "good and faithful servant" of her Savior Jesus Christ until she passed into heaven on Jan. 6, 2020 just 9 days before her 91st birthday.

Memorials Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 15, at Sagamore Baptist Church, 2301 Dottie Lynn Pkwy, Fort Worth.

Wanda Drusilla Boyd Young was born on Jan 15, 1929 in Borger, TX to E.M. "Curly" Boyd and Lucy Dale Lindsey Boyd. She was one of 8 children born and number 4 of the 6 who lived. After graduating a year early from Pampa High School, Dru went to Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and studied nursing. She was married to Jack O. Young Jr. They had 5 children together and were married over 35 years before they divorced. They served together at Sagamore Hill Baptist Church in the adult and youth ministry. Their home was open to all and a "home away from home" to many students in the seminary. She later became a vital part of the ministry in the Chapel at the Villas where she lived for 14 years.

Dru showed love to all she met and was loved by all who met her.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lindsey and Bill; and her sisters, Altha, Doris and Elsie.

Survivors: This amazing wife, mother and grandmother is survived by her 5 children, Gayle Milburn, Jack O. Young III (Melodee), Kurt M. Young (Kellene), Jeff L. Young (Patti) and Mila Joy Bentler (Jim); 13 grandchildren, Staci Stanglin (Mike), Jason Duffin (Holly), Yardley Harris (Casey), Adam Nave (Allison), Andy Nave (Aimee), Cody Young (Samantha), Lucy Dale McVay (Anthony), Preslie Joy Agee (Ty), Bailey Young (Emilee), Kelby Rumfolo (Joe) , Keller Mogensen (Nick), Greg Bentler (Julianna), Dara Young; and 21 great-grandchildren.

I spent many weekends at the Young’s home during college. Mrs. Young was always so sweet and welcoming. She made cooking for 20 look so easy! One time after I married, she was with a friend in an ice storm in Sulphur Springs. She found me and they spent the night. I have such fond memories and send my sincerest condolences to all.

Dru was very special to me. I came to Sagamore as a single guy in the College & Career dept. and had no family in the immediate area. I was invited over for lunch regularly to watch the Cowboy games. After entering the Navy, she would write me monthly and send the church newsletter. At the end of my military service I returned to Fort Worth to work, and Dru insisted that I stay with them until I could find an apartment--about two weeks. When Merlene and I got married, Dru hosted our wedding shower and helped with our wedding reception. Dru and the rest of the family have always been a joy to me. Thanks Dru for all the memories. Going to my Aunt Dru’s House was always the best. She cooked for us and fawned over us and listened to our stories with interest. My cousins were older and sooo cool. My uncle Jack had fast cars that he drove fast. It was fun. I’ll really miss my sweet Aunt Dru. Murray H.
