Obituary

Elmer H. Miller Jr., 94, passed away October 28th, 2020 in Columbia, S.C.

He was born January 25th, 1926 in Paris, IL to Mr. and Mrs. Elmer H. and Ruth (Burkhalter) Miller. Elmer graduated from Emhouse High School in 1942 in Emhouse, T.X. where he was a faithful attendee of the school’s reunions. He married his high school sweetheart, Violet Davis, in 1945 in Dallas, TX. Elmer served in the European Theater of WWII in the 27th Tank Company C. In addition to serving his country, Elmer proudly served his Lord as both a Sunday School teacher and Deacon of the Baptist Church. He was a lifelong Texan who loved nothing more than weekend drives on the Bluebonnet Trail followed by Blue Bell ice cream. Elmer was often described by his family and friends as strong, energetic, and a kind soul. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Survivors include his daughter, Lynne (Miller) Wheeler of Columbia, S.C.; sister, Dora Jean Day; grandson, Kenneth Wheeler, and his wife, Emily; and one great-granddaughter, Charley Ann Wheeler.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Violet; brother, Scott F. Miller; and son-in-law, Larry K. Wheeler.

The family would like to thank The Harmony Collection at Columbia and Lighthouse Hospice Group for the comfort and care provided to Elmer during his final moments.

Elmer’s body will be received at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery where he will be interred beside his wife.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
