Obituary

Faye Louise Briggs, 96, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2020 in Arlington, Texas.

Private burial, Moore Memorial Gardens.
Memorials: Mission Arlington, SPCA, Humane Society of North Texas

Faye was born, along with her beloved twin brother, Ray(‘Bud’) December 15, 1923 in Arlington to Albert Denney Austin and Minnie Jane Harrison Austin. She graduated from Arlington High School. She married Ralph Briggs in 1945. Faye worked at Chance Vaught Aeronautics and Southwestern Bell as an operator until she decided to stay home and start a family. She was a proud Arlington resident for all of her 96 years and was a member of the Harrison family who was prominent in early Arlington. She and Ralph were charter members of Fielder Road Baptist Church.

Faye was a devoted wife and mother. Her selflessness, kindness and gift of hospitality were evident throughout her life until the very end. She never complained, was always grateful, always gracious. She was truly the hands and feet of Jesus.

Her cooking was legendary – homemade divinity candy which she gladly shared with family and friends at Christmas, her famous dressing for family Thanksgivings, and a host of other homemade dishes she loved to share with everyone. She had a green thumb and a love of gardening and beauty in her yard. Her love of animals was well-known. She was like a second mother to Jan and Jennifer’s friends and always made them feel welcome. Many continued to be her friends as well as theirs. Faye’s sense of humor and positive outlook on life made her a great encourager to many.

She and Ralph were members of First Baptist Church, Arlington.

She was preceded in death by husband of 70 years, Ralph.

Survivors: Daughters, Jan Briggs McDaniel and husband, Howard and Jennifer Briggs Gerst and husband, Michael; grandchildren, Stuart McDaniel and wife, Kelli, and Ethan McDaniel and wife, Courtney; and 12 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Olivia, Liliana, Zadie, Ellasyn, William, Katherine, Caraline Kate, Victoria, Haddie, Ethan Briggs and Matthew.

My earliest memories are on Bowie Street in Arlington. We were fortunate to have The Briggs family next door to us, and Jan was my first true friend. Our parents became friends, too, and we did a number of things together, mostly outdoors on Bowie Street. There was always lots of laughing. Faye had that beautiful smile, and I always felt comfort and love from her. For a few years she kept me after school. Jan and I enjoyed playing together whether in the yard, playing games indoors and trying out the piano together.

Fays had snacks for us when we came in from school. Everything was delicious! I stayed over for dinner from time to time and would go home and ask Mother to try some of Faye's recipes! Her potato soup is still one of my favorites. Mine does not taste the same, yet I always think of Faye, when I have potato soup!

Her kindness, caring and nurturing personality have stayed in my heart over the years and will continue to do so. She is a special person in my life and a lovely lady. How blessed I am to have had Faye as my second mother, especially in my early years.
