I just watched Shana's incredibly powerful eulogy to her Grandmother, MommieMe. I both laughed and cried. I learned things I wished I'd known while she was still alive.

I knew Elayne Lee as as my Aunt Elayne on the Lee side of our family. Spending many vacations and celebrations in Brady over the years, Shana's revelations of Aunt Elayne's personality rang true. Indeed, she was kind, intelligent, strict, generous, and devoted to the big-three: Family, Faith, and Food. And the healing powers of each.

Another personality trait was her fierceness of personality. Some of the Lee grandchildren, myself included, called her "Aunt Tiger" when no adults were present. We believed she could read our minds and discover any and all infractions any of us had ever committed. If that doesn't install terror to a child, nothing will! However, Aunt Elayne was a disciplinarian without raising her voice. But my land, those truth piercing eyes would stop you from breathing! Still, she was so kind when we behaved and we always knew where we stood with her. Now in my 6th decade, I realize she couldn't look deep into our souls. She taught us something more important: it is an obligation for each of us to review our actions for honorable behavior. She was simply exhibiting healthy parental accountability. Some of us had never experienced this and were fearful. We became appreciative as we matured.

I treasured our talks over the years until her hearing acuity decreased and we had to stop. Connie then graciously volunteered to be her Mother's ears. Thank you, Connie. Shana, you are a remarkable woman to be able to talk about your Grandmother with such raw emotion yet composure.

Rest assured, none of us will forget your MommieMe.

Love to all of the family,

Dr. Sarah Haynes [Dee Dee, Washington State]
