Mary Nan Odom, 75, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2020 in Arlington.

Funeral: 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, at Epworth United Methodist Church, 1400 S. Cooper St., Arlington.

Interment: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas.

Mary was born in Denton, TX to Mary and Eldridge Manry on April 28, 1944. She attended high school at Denton High School and college at North Texas University. She soon married the love of her life, Lawrence Odom, on June 14, 1963 in Denton. They moved to Arlington and quickly became active members of Epworth United Methodist Church. They were then blessed with their first child Lisa Michele on May 11, 1965. Three years later Lawrence Scott was brought into their lives on June 10, 1968, followed by John Kevin on January 3, 1974.

A loving caregiver, Mary operated a home daycare for many years, blessing the lives of many families. She later shared her talents with families of special needs children by helping start Advocates for Special people with her husband, Lawrence, and a small group of dedicated individuals. Mary has also enjoyed coaching Special Olympics for many years. Her hobbies included oil painting, sewing, baking, photography, singing in the church choir, and driving a tractor on their farm. A faithful Christian, Mary was known for her sense of humor, the care she gave to others, and the love she had for her family. Memorial donations may be made to Advocates for Special People.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Newell. Survivors are her husband of 57 years, Lawrence; sons, Scott Odom and wife, Lisa, and Kevin Odom; daughter, Lisa Phillips and husband, David; sister, Ruby Franks and husband, Doyle; and grandchildren, Garrett Odom, Ashley Odom, Rebecca Wagner and husband, Kevin Wagner, and Kayce Phillips.
