Michael Glenn Moritz, 56, passed away February 29, 2020 after a valiant battle with a lengthy illness.

As a curious child, Mike was fascinated by the clouds and science of weather. He would play weatherman and give his “expert” forecast to the family. Even as a kid, he was usually right.

Mike was a 1981 graduate of Arlington High School where he played on the baseball team. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington and earned his Master’s degree from SMU.

He was incredibly smart and a lifelong learner with a thirst for knowledge. He had the heart of a teacher and eagerly shared his discoveries and opinions.

After working at Merrill Lynch, he moved to the classroom, teaching international finance at Texas Christian University.

Mike was especially accomplished as an analyst of the junior mining industry, doggedly researching the small businesses and precious metals - gold and silver, in particular. He would even give a silver bar as a Christmas gift.

Mike was an engaged sports fan, rooting for his home teams, the Dallas Cowboys, Mavericks and Texas Rangers. From the baseball field to the gym to the swimming pool, Mike was an athlete himself, disciplined and dedicated to health and fitness.

With intrepid determination, Mike chased his childhood dream and those fascinating clouds. At nearly 40 years old, he became a certified meteorologist and TV weatherman. He loved it.

In uncommon fashion, Mike came into the world a 10-pound baby and departed this life on Leap Day. He was exceptional in so many ways.

He was a proud man who fought life’s battles with quiet courage and grit. For Mike, the clouds have parted, but those who loved him will miss his sunshine.

He is survived by his parents, Charles and Verna Moritz of Arlington; brother Chuck Moritz of Fort Worth; brother Greg Moritz (wife Gayle) of Arlington; sister Marilyn Tarr (husband Dave) of San Antonio; sister Michelle Moritz of San Marcos; six nieces and many relatives, friends and students.

In lieu of services, Mike’s family will celebrate his life privately. If desired, contributions can be made in Mike’s memory to the American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association.
