Obituary

Michael John Murray, 77, passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, October 26, 2019 surrounded by his family.

A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, November 9th at 10:00 a.m.

He was born in Brooklyn, New York on April 18, 1942 to John and Helen Murray. He attended St. John’s University and earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting. He started his accounting career at Peat Marwick in New York City. On September 18, 1965, he married the love of his life, Linda. In June of 1966, they welcomed their first son, Michael. A few years later, in March of 1970, their twins, a son and daughter, Brian and Laura, were born.
Shortly after the twins arrived, Mike was transferred to Houston by Shell Oil. In 1976, he took a job with Western Company of North America in Fort Worth and the family moved to Arlington.

In addition to Peat Marwick, Shell and Western, Mike enjoyed working as a certified public accountant at Six Flags over Texas and Sky Chefs. He was also an adjunct professor at TCC and Northlake College, where he enjoyed teaching accounting.

As an active parishioner at Most Blessed Sacrament, Mike served as an acolyte and head Eucharistic minister. In addition, he volunteered with the MBS hospital ministry and Meals on Wheels. Mike was very athletic and enjoyed playing racquetball, basketball, tennis and golf. He was also an avid runner. He enjoyed traveling with Linda and meeting interesting people all over the world. Mike was quick-witted and loved bantering back and forth with his family and friends. He was humble and kind to all. Mike was grateful for the many blessings God provided in his life, especially his beloved Linda and their family. He was exceptionally proud of his children and the way they are each raising their own children. He relished spending time with his growing family and was an enthusiastic fan of his grandchildren’s academic, athletic and musical pursuits.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jack and his sister, Ann.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Linda; son Michael and wife Karen of Westlake; son, Brian and wife Diana of North Richland Hills; daughter, Laura Brown and husband Larry of Mansfield' grandchildren, Alec, Dylan and Emma Murray; Isabel, Olivia, Zoe and Ian Murray, Conner and Carsen Clark, and Cassidy and Keely Brown.
In addition, his sister Mary of New Jersey; brother-in-law and friend, Lionel Thivierge of Arlington and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Freedom Hospice and the angels from Nursecore who loved and cared for Mike and Linda through the last difficult months.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to: St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Alzheimer’s Research.
