Obituary

Phillip R. Meads, 56, of Piedmont, OK, passed into the arms of his Savior on Thursday, April 15, in Oklahoma City.

He was born April 23, 1964 to Robert Newell and Jeanette Streit. He graduated from Burges High School in El Paso, TX, in 1982, and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he was a tanker and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1986. He received his Bachelor’s degree from UT Arlington and earned a degree in Exercise and Sports Studies. Phillip was a deputy sheriff with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department in Fort Worth, TX for 4 years. He then began his career in Federal Law Enforcement with FMC Carswell where he worked as a Recreation Officer. His creative juices flowed there as he taught guitar, drawing, painting, horticulture, cake decorating, card making and coached many different sports. He also served as a firearms instructor. In 2015, he applied and was accepted as a Drug Treatment Counselor at FCI El Reno. This had been his dream job for many years. He retired in 2018 after 20 years with the Bureau of Prisons. Phil’s interests were far and wide from riding his Harley to four-wheeling and camping with his family, bicycling, dirt bike riding, watching car racing, playing guitar and joking around with friends and family. He was known for his humor and quick whit. Phil had a heart for God and people. He served on mission trips, with the youth group, and the church security team. He was a former resident of Arlington, TX. Phil married his high school sweetheart, Cathy Scott, on August 26, 1989.

Survivors are wife, Cathy Meads; sons, Parker Meads (Emily) of Oklahoma City, and Trevor Meads (fiancé, Jenny Cranston) of Arlington, TX; mother, Jeanette Streit of Vernon, TX; brother, Robert Newell of Ft Worth, TX; and sister, Debbie Meads of Berkeley, CA.

Viewing will be Monday, April 19, 10am-8pm with family present from 6-8 pm at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service, Bethany OK. Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 20, 10:00am at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. Texas funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 22, 2:00pm at Arlington First Church of the Nazarene with interment to follow in Emerald Hills Memorial Park, Kennedale, TX.
