Dell was born in Sweetwater Tx on July 29, 1935. He attended Sweetwater High School where he played several sports and went on to attend Hardin Simmons College and then graduated from Texas Technological College in 1961 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He moved to Arlington, Tx in 1962 and was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church Arlington. Dad loved to work and spent his career in the federal government. His career started in Fort Worth with the US Army Corps of Engineers, then moved on to the Housing and Urban Development department, and he made his final move to start the first Region 6 office for FEMA in Denton where he retired after 27 years. After retirement he began working part-time at Freese and Nichols and with the Texas Division of Emergency Management. Dell loved his career because he did not view it as engineering, but as an opportunity to serve others. He worked every federal disaster that occurred in TX and OK through 2010. His most memorable disaster assistance programs were the floods in Tulsa, OK, the TX wildfires, the Oklahoma City bombing and the Space Shuttle recovery in East Texas.

But his greatest virtue was his family values he instilled in his sons. He was a father, a husband, a coach, a mentor, a golfer and someone you could talk to. He taught us to live a Christian life and to raise our family with these same values. He can now look down from Heaven and watch his work in action. “Well Done, Good and Faithful Servant!”

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Greer.

Survivors: He is survived by his sister LaMay Mann and husband Willard from Dublin, Tx, son, Alan Greer and wife Lori from Argyle Tx, son Russell Greer and wife Laura from Aledo Tx, Nephew Randy Mann and wife Caroline from Belton Tx, Niece Patti Thompson and husband Derrel from Temple Tx, six grandchildren Lindsey Sandifer, Meredith Maeder, Alyssa Greer, Brooklyn Greer, Madelin Davis, and Reese Greer. In addition, Sherilyn Sellers and her family that brought Dad happiness over the last 6 years.
