Obituary

Mr. Rene Doyle Sears of Arlington, Texas passed peacefully on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the age of 90.

Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, First Christian Church, 910 S. Collins St., Arlington. Interment: Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas. Visitation: Rene will lie in state from 12-5 p.m. on Friday, June 4, at Wade Family Funeral Home, 4140 W. Pioneer Parkway, Arlington. A public visitation will follow from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Christian Church.

Rene is survived by his wife, DeRema Sears; daughter, Vicki Tomasini and husband, Robert of San Antonio; son, John Sears and wife, Joni of Glen Rose; granddaughters, Jamie Quisenberry and husband, Zach, Janelle Hardin and husband, Craig; and Sierra Sears; great-grandsons, Case and Cole Hardin and Ryder Quisenberry; sister, Esma (Babe) Williams; brother-in-law, Richard Gower; and sister-in-law, Sandy Byars; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Rene is preceded in death by his sister, Faye Baker; brothers-in-law, Hugh Baker, Doug Williams and Duane Byars; and sister-in-law, Lloyd Dean Gower.

Born March 30, 1931 to parents, Rene John and Lucy Faye Sears in Hutchins, Texas, Rene graduated Wilmer-Hutchins High School in 1948 and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Texas Christian University in 1951, where he played baseball for the Horned Frogs.

Rene was a United States Army Veteran serving his country during the Korean War. After graduating from TCU and serving in the Army, Rene began his 45 year career in the insurance business in Amarillo, Texas. He then married the love of his life, DeRema Belle Byars on December 11, 1952. Rene finished the last 20 years of his insurance career while residing in his home of 44 years in Arlington, Texas.

Rene was extremely active in First Christian Church of Arlington where he served as Deacon, Elder and Chairman of several committees. He was involved with the Juliette Fowler Organization of Dallas and Guardianship Services of Fort Worth. He was a lifelong member of the brotherhood of the Free Masons (Masonic Lodge 1239), and lived his final months at the Masonic Retirement Center in Arlington.
Rene’s hobbies included woodworking, Texas Rangers Baseball, hunting and fishing, and cherished time with family and friends.

To his friends he was “that nice Rene Sears.” To his family and siblings he was “Rene Boy.” To his granddaughters he was “Grrr” and “Studley.” To his circle of family and friends he made the world a better place to live. He is forever in our hearts.
