Obituary

Richard Michael Lighty, age 62, of Arlington, Texas passed away December 25, 2020 at Arlington Memorial Hospital. His wife of 31 years, Jan (Crichton) was by his side.

Richard was born in McComb Mississippi, raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and Arlington, Texas where he attended Lamar High School. He attended Louisiana State University and the University of Texas at Arlington.

Richard was a vibrant, mischievous soul who lived life to the fullest. He was a voracious reader, adventurer and lover of life. He spent his youth SCUBA diving, skydiving, snow skiing, teaching fencing and tennis, and later enjoyed cooking, gardening and traveling with his wife, Jan. He spent eight years at Baylor Hospital in Dallas overseeing the admit lab and left to pursue his passion – photography, with a studio on McKinney Avenue in Dallas, Texas until he retired in 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Jan (Crichton), his mother Mary Frances (Hilton) Lighty, currently of Beaumont, Texas; brother, Don of Beaumont, Texas; nephews John, Matthew and William Lighty and their families.

He is preceded in death by his father, Duane Richard Lighty.

Richard was our neighbor and we were quite fond of him. Although our time knowing Richard was short, he left a mark on our hearts. He welcomed us to the neighborhood and was always very friendly. Richard was generous, helpful, kind, and funny too! He always had interesting stories up his sleeve. He definitely enjoyed retirement, we got to see him relaxing on his front porch almost every day. We are really, really missing him and wish we could have known him for longer. Our prayers go out to Jan and family.
