Obituary

William Hugh Ross (known as “Hugh”) passed away on April 1, 2021 in Dallas, Texas after a short illness; he was surrounded by his family.
Hugh was born in Eagle Pass, Texas on October 30, 1933 to Cecil Clay Ross and Florence Dora Snowden. With younger brothers Albert and Martin, he was raised in Arlington, Texas, where he attended Arlington High School. He graduated in 1951 as Class President, and was involved in various organizations like FFA, AHS Choir, and ROTC. He was also the first handler of AHS’s “little Arlie.”
Hugh graduated from The University of Texas at Austin in 1956, where he continued his service in the ROTC. Afterwards, he enlisted in the US Army and served as a Military Police Officer in the 720th Battalion.
Throughout his life, Hugh was President and Owner of various companies, like Big State Construction, Roofs by Ross, and Agro Innovators. A member of Rotary International for 60 years, Hugh served as President for the Arlington Downtown Rotary Club (1967-68) and District Governor for Rotary District 5790 (1987-88).
He was an avid hunter and pilot, as well as a master gardener and composter. Dedicated to his family and family history, Hugh was involved in Clan Ross America, where he previously served as national president. He loved a good laugh and enjoyed talking with (and about) his children and grandchildren.
Hugh is survived by his wife Kathy; son Will and daughter-in-law Theresa; son David and daughter-in-law Janice; stepchildren Dore’ and Kyle Cermak; grandchildren Wallea, Grayson, and Carli; brother Martin and sisters-in-law Brenda and Fern, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Florence, and his brother Albert.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Rotary International.
